Oscars

I'm going to take another shot at this live blogging thing. I figure, if I'm going to already be watching the Oscars, I could at least be doing something moderately constructive. A word of warning. I'm not planning on editing this bad boy before I publish it, just so you know. I want to get to bed at a decent hour. The ceremony doesn't start for another 2 hours, but E Exclamation Point is covering the arrivals. It is apparently pouring rain so all red carpet activities are taking place under tents. Ugh, the E! (EEEEE!!!!) crew is so annoying I refuse to write about it. So the Oscars have a few changes this year. They are going with 2 hosts, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin. This could go one of two ways: it could actually be funny because these are funny guys, or it could be a scripted banter/wild and crazy guys disaster. We shall see. The other major alteration is the expansion of the Best Picture category to include 10 films. My reservations here . I'm not g...

Paul Blart: Best Picture?

So I guess starting next year the Oscars are widening the Best Picture race to include 10 movies . I have mixed feelings about this and will have to wait and see how it plays out. On one hand, it could make things more interesting. I did a post pre-Oscars this year about how annoyed I was that the nominees seemed to be limited to "awards bait" films released within a month of the end of the year cut off date, alienating anything premiering from January through November. I was especially irritated that The Dark Knight and WALL-E were overlooked. Having double the number of nominees could open the door for bigger movies that have increasingly been dismissed as summer fluff. I'm wondering if this development also means they are considering UP for a Best Picture slot this year. The addition of the Best Animated Feature in 2002 gave the Academy an excuse to exclude any animated film from the Best Picture race, no matter how impressive the film. This particularly irked m...

Oscars

Much to Ryan's dismay and despite my recent rant, I'm once again going to watch the Oscars. Partially because I can't help myself and partially because I keep hearing things that lead me to believe this year could be a fantastic train wreck. Things like Hugh Jackman, who is not a comedian but who likes to sing and dance, will be hosting. Also there's supposed to be a 'storyline' to tie the award presentations together. Whooo boy. I'm watching it on a slight time delay so I can fast forward through the commercials. And away we go! Red carpet Angelina Jolie looks hilariously miserable Tim Gunn is interviewing. Good call. Kate Winslett. Her dress is gorgeous. Didn't see the Reader, but I did see her in Extras . Josh Brolin is married to Diane Lane? Amy Adams has an...interesting necklace Sarah Jessica P and Matthew Broderick Taraji P. Henson. She looks beautiful. Frank Langella. He was amazing in Frost/Nixon, but I think there were better movies...
