Taste Test: J&D's Ultimate Bacon Lover's Gift Pack: Part 1: Bacon Salt

Emerging from hiatus to share our latest adventure with food additives. A while back, Ryan found and ordered the J&D's Ultimate Bacon Lover's Gift Pack (how could he not??). A few weeks ago we cracked it open and performed our first taste test, starting with three of the ten varieties of Bacon flavored Salt. Other items awaiting us in the Gift Pack: Bacon flavored lip balm Bacon flavored envelopes (or MMM-velopes) Bacon flavored popcorn Bacon flavored sunflower seeds *Bacon flavored mayonnaise Bacon flavored ranch dip mix *Product most likely will not be sampled thanks to it's 2 day layover in our mailbox. Sorry folks, we'll eat a lot of gross things, but I draw the line at food poisoning.

Taste Test: Soda Marinade Series: Part 3

We now conclude our tour of soda marinades. Last stop: A&W Sauce. Part 1 Part 2 Surprisingly, I'd say the A&W was the least offensive of the three marinades. Not that it still wasn't bad. Thanks to my helper tasters Steanso, Paul, Erin, and especially Ryan for braving all three! Ryan has ordered me a secret gift set that should provide an entire summer's worth of tasting adventures. You are in for a treat and I am....probably not.

Taste Test: Soda Marinade Series: Part 1

You may remember this picture from a thrilling post I did about a trip to the grocery store: Well my friends, you are in in for a treat. Ryan and I recently purchased each and every one of the above mouthwatering soda marinades. They will be featured in our new taste test series. First up: Dr Pepper Marinade (Thanks to Nathan for pointing out there is, in fact, no period in Dr Pepper)

Blue Foods: Crime against Nature or Powerful Medicines?

Image
So, my mother has always had this weird thing against blue foods. Luckily there aren't that many edible items that come in blue, but it does mean she abstains from things like blueberry pancakes and blue M&Ms. Yes, you heard me. Blue M&Ms. Don't ask, I don't even know. This morning I tried out a new snack item. We generally don't keep a lot of sugary foods in the house, unlike a few years ago. I no longer have cookies stashed in the cupboard or bags of Skittles and Hot Tamales lying around. I very rarely even indulge in my nightly bowl of cereal anymore. What I do enjoy is a mid-morning or post dialysis snack of Eggos and Starbucks frappuccino. Don't judge! Hey, the Eggos are Nutri-Grain, that's kinda healthy, right? Anyway, the last time I was at the store I thought I would branch out and try the blueberry flavor Eggos and this morning I cracked open the box for the first time. Immediately upon placing the Eggos on the plate I suspected there ...

Taste Test: Star Trek cereal

Image
Cereal: The Final Frontier. "Enterprise to McSteans: delicious cereal detected in your area" Captain's log: Early scans show zero signs of nutrition First Officer Jeff the Cat attempts to make contact I question my decision to purchase the promotional box of Star Trek cereal. Past experience with Superman movie cereal and Spiderman movie cereal leads me to believe I should put the box down and back away slowly. But I don't. Whoo-boy. This doesn't look good. Let's take a closer look: from left to right: "Planet Earth", "Planet Vulcan", "Galaxy", and an assortment of "Delta Shields". Damn, those galaxies look like they have the potential to rip the roof of my mouth to shreds. Better start with the marshmallows. Red ones first! Lucy thinks I really need to get a life. There's no going back now. To boldly taste what no man in their right mind would want to taste. Eeeeeeeuuuuuuuuunnnnnngggghhh. It doesn't taste ...

A Troubles McSteans Taste Test: Bacon Flavored Chocolate

Image
McSteans' buddy Heather stopped by on Friday to join in the Steans family Independence Day festivities bearing some chocolate treats found at Whole Foods. One was a chocolate bar flavored with bacon and the other: red peppers. Inspired by the League's many adventures with questionable foods, I thought this a perfect opportunity for a taste test. Ryan v. Brussel Sprout Jones Soda, Dec. 25, 2005 (courtesy the League of Melbotis ) Surely if the League could sacrifice his digestive system in the name of bloggy entertainment, I could likewise rise to the challenge. Bravely joining me in this culinary adventure were the League, the League and Steanso's cousin Susan, and Heather (who conveniently opted out of the bacon challenge due to her "vegan" status). Let the taste test begin: First up: Mo's Bacon Bar. I don't know if you used to play this game as a child, but we had one where the goal was to out gross your friends with the most disgusting combination...
